Merger of Smartphone Operating Platforms Likely for Samsung
January 18 Jan 2012 | 09:56
As South Korea based Samsung Electronics Corp. , the biggest smartphone maker in the world, is trying to find alternatives for Android by Google in its devices, the company has plans underway to merge its own ‘bada’ mobile phone operating software with Tizen platform, an open source. This new platform has to be ahead of the Palm and Nokia, which had last year met failure, not only with the device makers, but also the developers as the Smartphone market is becoming increasingly consolidated by Apple and Google.
A spokesman from Samsung has said that the company is currently considering a merger between Bada and Tizen, and this will put a seal of confirmation on the comments given by Kang Tae-Jin the senior vice president, published in Forbes magazine last week. Francisco Jeronimo, analyst for IDC, said that under a strong leadership from a vital vendor like Samsung, he thinks that the OS may be in a position to have a chance as most of the vendors who had been dependent on Google for Android are now looking for alternatives. Android was able to get more than 50 percent market share with the support of handset manufacturers. The market share faded after Google revealed the $12.5 billion offer for the phone manufacturer, Motorola Mobility, previous year.
Samsung. who has now appeared as the number one Smartphone manufacturer thanks to the increasing demand for Android models in the third quarter, joined hands with Intel in 2011 to strengthen its attempt at mobile software change. In September last year the two Linus software groups, one having the backing of Intel and another of Samsung, have reached an agreement to develop Tizen. It is going to be a new operating system for smartphones and other devices.
